Llanfair Clydogau: A History
Llanfair Clydogau is a historic parish within the former county of Cardiganshire (now Ceredigion), in west Wales. The word Llanfair means parish of Mary and the second word Clydogau refers to the three rivers Clywedog (the Upper, Middle and Lower). Hence, Llanfair, as it is popularly known, is the parish of Mary on the banks of the three Clywedog rivers which flow off the eastern uplands of the Cambrian Mountains and into the larger River Teifi. The Parish extends across virtually the whole of the upland Clywedog rivers and on both sides of the lower land along the Teifi. It is on these lower valley bottom lands that the main settlement of peoples occurred, since here the land was lower, flatter, soils better and climate most attractive.
